Tom Carl

District 5

Tom was elected to the Gunnison County Electric Association (GCEA) board in 2017 after retiring from GCEA. Tom currently serves as our president and previously served as our vice president. As president, Tom serves as an ex officio member to all Board committees. He is also our alternate representative for Colorado Rural Electric Association and Western United Electric Supply Co.

Tom has earned both the Credentialed Cooperative Director and Board Leadership certifications from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

For thirty-seven years, Tom was the go-to guy when the lights went out in Lake City. As a skilled lineman, Tom helped with teaching at Mesa Hotline School, a two-week program for persons wishing to pursue the electrical lineworker profession. Tom was born in Durango but has lived in Lake City ever since grade school. He is a widower and has two sons: Ron, who lives in Rifle, and Duane, who lives in Glenwood Springs with his son, Coulter. Tom resides in Lake City where he continues long-serving civic activities in the community including Reserve Deputy for the Hinsdale Sheriff’s Office, Chair of the Lake City Snowmobilers Club, and a volunteer with the Hinsdale County Search and Rescue.
