On Friday, July 24, two separate outages affected many of our members. We appreciate everyone's patience as our crews investigated the causes and safely restored power.
Gunnison Area Outage
At 10:18 a.m., a small animal came into contact with a transformer in north Gunnison, causing an outage for 1,124 GCEA members from Antelope Hills to Almont and up Ohio Creek.
Because GCEA's system was operating in one-shot mode to reduce wildfire risk, crews began troubleshooting at the power source—the Skito Substation on County Road 17—and inspected the line section by section, restoring power as they progressed. Service was fully restored by 11:21 a.m.
Arrowhead Outage
At 10:36 a.m., a contractor accidentally damaged an underground power line in Arrowhead, interrupting service to 577 GCEA members. Crews worked throughout the day to make repairs, and power was fully restored by 4:00 p.m.
