EV Test Drive Program

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to drive an electric vehicle?  Now’s your chance!

LEADING THE CHARGE:  Gunnison County Electric Association isn’t exactly in the car business, but we have been a progressive force in the state of Colorado to promote EV use.  We were the first Colorado electric coop to install an EV charger in our service territory and the first electric coop in the nation to offer an EV test drive program to our members.

EV TEST DRIVE PROGRAM:  To educate our members and bring awareness to our community about electric vehicles, GCEA purchased a 2018 Chevy Bolt.  It can be borrowed by GCEA members for a week at a time, to drive free of charge and without mileage restrictions. The EV test drive program provides members the chance to see how an EV works as their daily vehicle, and think about whether planning an electric vehicle purchase in their future makes sense.

WHY GO EV?  For some, EV adoption is about doing their part to save the environment by eliminating tailpipe emissions and contributing to cleaner air.  For others, EVs are an attractive option due to state and federal tax rebates up to $10,000, as well as the cost savings on maintenance since EVs do not require oil changes and other routine maintenance visits.

HOW MUCH WILL I SAVE?  To help reduce costs even further, GCEA offers choices to its members with the Time-of-Use (TOU) rate.  When members are signed up on the TOU rate and choose to charge their electric vehicles off-peak, they are paying the equivalent of $0.82 per gallon of gas, compared to the current local price of just under $3.00 per gallon.  GCEA’s peak period runs Monday through Saturday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Cars can be plugged in when someone arrives home at 6 p.m., but programmed not to charge until 10 p.m.  GCEA also offers rebates up to $500 on EV chargers, when members are signed up for TOU rates.  Charging may be done when it’s convenient, and it’s cost-effective!

DRIVE OUR EV'S!  Whatever your reasons for considering an EV purchase, we invite you to take advantage of the EV test drive experience through GCEA and find out why EVs are the car of the future and why so many people enjoy driving them.

SIGN UP AND DRIVE!  If you are interested in taking our Chevy Bolt for a week-long test drive or our Tesla Model 3 on a quick, 30-minute drive with a GCEA representative, please fill out the form below and you will be contacted by our Member Relations team.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are currently not taking reservations for Tesla test drives.  The Bolt is available for week-long loans and is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with a 72 hour waiting period between appointments.
