Energy Efficiency
Tips ....

10-20% of warm air from your home can be drawn into the chimney flue. You can spot a leaky damper by closing it and holding a lit candle inside the firebox. If the flame moves around or blows out, air is going up your chimney.

To resolve the problem, hire a chimney sweep for a good cleaning and to check the damper. It could reduce your annual heating bill by $500.

Time of Use Program

GCEA offers a residential time-of-use electric rate that may help you reduce high energy bills. The idea is to use electricity during the off-peak times when electricity is less expensive and to conserve energy during the peak times when electricity is more expensive. Although the RTOU rate is a great tool for reducing monthly electric bills, it is not appropriate for all customers. Whether you are a candidate for the RTOU rate will depend upon your family size and lifestyle.

To sign up for the RTOU rate, you must complete a new application for service and pay an application fee. After GCEA receives your application and fee, we will make arrangements with you to change out your electric meter. A new, more sophisticated meter is needed to record the kilowatt-hours used during the on-peak times versus the kilowatt-hours used during the off-peak times.

If you are interested in learning more about the RTOU, contact GCEA Member Services at 1-800-726-3523.
