Energy Efficiency
Tips ....

10-20% of warm air from your home can be drawn into the chimney flue. You can spot a leaky damper by closing it and holding a lit candle inside the firebox. If the flame moves around or blows out, air is going up your chimney.

To resolve the problem, hire a chimney sweep for a good cleaning and to check the damper. It could reduce your annual heating bill by $500.

AAUW Weatherization Project

Thanks to a grant from the American Association of University Women, GCEA offered Energy Efficiency/Weatherization Workshops for Women from autumn 2009 through winter 2010. The purpose of the workshops was to educate women about energy loss in their homes and what measures they could take to increase their homes' energy efficiency.

Participants learned basic skills and techniques for installing weather-stripping, insulation, and other energy efficiency measures that are proven to lower utility bills. The workshops were held in local area homes where participants got hands-on experience in learning how to problem solve.

Stay tuned for more workshops to be offered later this year.
