LED Holiday Lighting

If you love decorating for the holidays, there is an energy efficient option. When we think of efficient lighting we often think about compact fluorescent bulbs, but for the holidays, lighting with light emitting diodes (LEDs) can be a better solution. To help our members make the conversion to LEDs during the holiday season, GCEA has partnered with our power supplier, Tri-State Generation and Transmission to offer rebates for LED holiday lighting.

Customers may purchase their LED holiday lights at any retailer, and simply submit the receipt, box ends and rebate application to receive rebates of $1 or $2 per strand, depending on the length of the strand. Rebate applications will be accepted from November 1, 2010 through January 31, 2011.

Rebate Program Terms and Conditions

You must be a GCEA member to receive rebates on LED holiday lighting. If you receive your electricity from GCEA, you are a member!
  • Rebates apply only to LED decorative light strands. All bulb shapes and colors qualify. LED Rope lighting, pre-lit trees or wreaths and other decorations do not qualify.
  • For holiday lights purchased during 2010, completed application packets must be received by January 31, 2011 and must include:
  • Rebates will be issued as a credit on your GCEA electric bill and will be clearly delineated
  • Please allow at least two billing cycles for rebate credit to appear

Holiday Energy Savers

According to About.com, the average incandescent (C7) bulb uses 6 watts, while a single LED bulb uses only 0.08 watts.

Multiply that by a strand of 50 lights, and the savings are evident.

Running ten strands of LEDs for the entire holiday lighting season will cost about $6, compared with $4 to $4.50 for just one strand of incandescent lights.
