Gunnison County Electric Association Energy Audits

Energy Audits are once again being offered to Gunnison County Electric Association Members. GCEA is now offering two types of audits. The Clip Board Audit and the Advanced Audit.

The Clip Board Audit

The Clip Board Audit consists of a walk through where the GCEA auditor will evaluate a member's home or business with a checklist that includes basic Wise Energy Use Guidelines. During the walk through, the auditor will ask questions and take notes on obvious deficiencies within the home or business. No diagnostic testing will be performed. At the end of the walkthrough the auditor will give the member a copy of the Wise Energy Use Guidelines and a list of specific items that should be addressed to make the home or business more energy efficient. The Clip Board audit is free to all GCEA members.

The Advanced Audit

The Advanced Audit consists of three evaluations: (1) Envelope, (2) Equipment, and (3) Electrical Load and Lighting. The Envelope portion of the audit is primarily concerned with analyzing every aspect of the thermal boundary of the home or business. The auditor will measure and quantify heat loss and gain as well as evaluate the building for air sealing opportunities. The Equipment portion of the audit will measure and quantify the buildings equipment efficiency and compare it to actual energy billing. The Electric Load and Lighting portion of the audit measures and quantifies all of the electric plug and lighting loads. This information is also compared it to the actual energy billing. From the base line data collected the auditor will create a Current Energy Use Report that demonstrates exactly how the building uses energy. An Energy Audit Recommendation Report will then be generated and shared with the member. This report will explain specific energy saving mitigation measures. In addition, if requested by the member, the auditor will provide a cost benefit analysis for the mitigation measures recommended. The member must provide the cost portion of this analysis. Please check with GCEA regarding the current rates.
